Rock ‘n’ Ride – For Malawi
As you are reading this, there are over 13.2 million people in Malawi, and only 94 qualified doctors. That’s like having five in the whole of New Brunswick. To make matters worse, 900 000 people in Malawi are HIV positive. Rock ‘n’ Ride is a music festival and stationary bike marathon being held on June 5th, 2010, from 12PM to 8PM in support of Dignitas International’s HIV/AIDS clinics and prevention centres in the Zomba District of Malawi. Dignitas is a non-profit medical organization that establishes hospitals and teaches local staff in the medical profession, so when Western doctors leave the country, those care units can continue operating. The organization was established by two former members of Doctors without Borders, Dr. Orbinski, and Dr. Fraser.
At Rock ‘n’ Ride, there will be live music, entertainment, guest speakers, food, an art auction, and much more. The stationary bike marathon will be accomplished by teams of five to ten members. Find your team, sign up, bring your bikes, bring your team, and bring your spirit. Come rock ‘n’ ride in St. Andrews!
